GREAT New ETSY Find!!! *GIVEAWAY!!!* (CLOSED)

Posted on July 6, 2010 by themomsquad33 Comments

As always, when we come across something fabulous on Etsy that we think every mom, dad and grandparent should own…we tell you about it!  I am a HUGE fan of problem solvers myself, so when I discovered this stroke of genius, I was on top of it!  What was my problem, you ask?

Enter Exhibit A:

Do these children look comfortable to you?  Sure, they are sound asleep…but you and I both know any adult who falls asleep in either of those positions is going to wake with one heck of a crick in the neck…and at least a month’s worth of much needed physical therapy!

The solution:

THIS, my friends, is a travel neck pillow designed SPECIFICLY with CHILDREN in mind!

Favorite seller:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/twolittlemonkies
Etsy feedback rating:  11, 100% positive
She sells:  hair clips, headbands, clip/accessory holders, TRAVEL NECK PILLOWS, diaper and wipes pods, and various types of wall décor.
Custom requests:  YES
Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2069867&id=1302317198#!/twolittlemonkies

How Two Little Monkies was “born” (Written By Andrea, the owner and creator)

“I opened up Two Little Monkies in May 2010 as a small shop selling a few sets of hair clips. I quickly expanded and I now sell several types of hair accessories, clip holders, children’s neck pillows, diaper and wipes pods and wall decor.

As a family on a budget, I’ve always used my creativity to make items that weren’t affordable otherwise. When preparing for our family trip in April, I found some children’s neck pillows in the store and thought ‘I could do that, and for much less!’ I loved the idea, because my 3 year old and 1 year old fall asleep in the car on long trips and I hate seeing their little heads slumped over, knowing how uncomfortable that is! I designed a children’s neck pillow that I felt better fit young children, wider on the sides and narrower in the back so it didn’t push their head forward as they were sleeping. After my daughters used these pillows on our vacation (ok, I’ll admit, I gave it a test run too), I decided I would add them to my Etsy shop to see how they would sell. Since then, they have become my most popular product!

 Andrea has graciously offered one of her fantastic travel pillows as a giveaway prize for one lucky blog follower!  The winner can go to her Etsy shop and select one of a varitey of avaliable fabrics!

**How to enter** (CLOSED)

Stop by Andrea’s shop:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/twolittlemonkies and tell us what your favorite item is in the comments section below.  It can be ANYTHING she has listed in the shop!

If you did not win the travel neck pillow, but would like to purchase one, please see the information below for a coupon code JUST for Bye Bye with Baby followers!

Instructions – Enter the code in the “Message to Seller” section when you order on Etsy and then I will send the person an invoice through PayPal to include the discount. If they do pay, I will just refund the money afterwords.
The code is good for 10% off of any pillow that is ordered

Carting Kids just got SO MUCH CUTER! *giveaway*

Posted on June 2, 2010 by themomsquad55 Comments

I was chatting online with a new mom (and friend) the other day, and she was asking me about my shopping cart cover.  I gave her the name of the company where I purchased mine, but when I took a look at their shop, I noticed that they were closed/on vacation mode.  Knowing she would want something ASAP, I did a little searching and came across what I have found to literally be the best thing since sliced bread, lol!  (Let’s put it this way, I sent her an e-mail JUST to let her know how amazing I thought her product was!)  I passed the info along to my mommy friend and she purchased the cover that very same night.  Since then, she has received it, used it, and LOVED it!  I contacted Amanda at Practical Designs and told her that I would like to write a blog about her shop.  She was extremely sweet and actually offered to host a giveaway!  One of our lucky blog followers will have the opportunity to win one of her “Practical Designs!”  Stay tuned for more details at the end of the blog!

Favorite seller:  www.etsy.com/shop/PracticalDesigns
Etsy feedback rating:  101, 100% positive
What she sells:  Boutique-style shopping cart covers and diaper clutches—Amanda welcomes custom requests.  If you don’t see a print you like, or if you have your own material, simply convo her to work out the details!
Custom requests:  YES

So what makes Practical Designs better than the rest?  Well…let me tell you!  The first thing to catch my eye when searching for a cart cover is price.  At this time, Practical Designs has her covers listed at (Are you ready for this one?)  $36.00!  (It should be known that cart covers of this caliber typically sell for upwards of $50-$60!)

Not only are they affordable, but they are PRACTICAL!  Amanda, a SAHM of 2 small children, became exhausted with trying to find “the perfect” cart cover and decided to design her own…just the way she wanted.  These covers are plush, washable, they include a seat strap, A SIPPY CUP POCKET (Hello?!  Does anyone else find that as awesome as I do?!) and a PILLOW!  (How many of you have taken your little ones shopping only to have this happen:

Problem solved!

I cannot stress enough how wonderful a shopping cart cover is.  Anyone out there who has one already can attest to their greatness…and I think they would also agree that theirs would be 100% BETTER with a sippy cup pocket and a pillow!  If you are in the market for a cover, or would like to upgrade the one you may already have, I HIGHLY recommend Practical Designs!

*****************Giveaway Deets*********************

To go along with our traveling theme, Practical Designs has generously offered one of their adorable (and stylish!) diaper clutches to one of our lucky readers!  A diaper clutch is a handy accessory to any purse or diaper bag!  It holds about 3 diapers, a travel wipes case, and even has room for a couple of baggies for those “uh-oh” moments!  These are AWESOME when you are traveling!  Instead of carrying your entire baby arsenal into the gas station for a diaper change, you can just grab your cute little clutch and have everything you need right at your fingertips!  Is your peanut already potty trained?  Use the clutch to carry an extra set of clothes and some wipes for little sticky fingers!

To enter this week’s giveaway, we want to know what you love/don’t love about shopping cart covers.  Comment with your answer below.  We will use random.org at the end of the week to select a winner!

~~~I wanted to add, Amanda is going to be adding more to her shop this weekend.  So be sure to check back to see her new fabrics!~~~
An addiction we can ALL admit!
Posted on May 3, 2010 by themomsquad43 Comments
We’re addicted to our kiddos!  Misty started the Addiction Baby Company (ABC) with that very premise and didn’t mind admitting it!  She came to the conclusion that she wanted to be involved in her children’s lives though she “only [had] two arms and [her] little monkey wanted to be in them all the time!”  After researching various styles of slings and babywearing – she realized that not only would she be carrying her child, but also all the tot-toiletries as well (diapers, wipes, a blanket… the list goes on and on!)
After searching around and not finding the exact fit for her, she decided to design something to suit her needs: enter the Little Monkey Blanket Carrier.  The blanket carrier is a combination fold-up baby quilt and a mei-tei style of infant carrier!  When it’s folded up it can be used as a baby carrier to aid in hands-free activities while still providing comfort and attention to baby.  Simply unfold the carrier and it becomes the perfect blanket to lay a sleeping baby down on or change a diaper on!  Even after the child has outgrown the carrier, it can still be useful as a portable quilt or shoulder bag – seriously the uses are endless!
Folded Up & Ready for Use!
Unfolded into a Blanket!
Misty has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met – she was so patient with me while I asked a million questions about the carrier (with all of the recent sling controversy!)  I knew these weren’t the same type of sling as were the ones in the news – and she explained to me there was an entire how-to section on her website that explained various ways to position the baby and the safety measures involved  (with video tutorials to make it even easier to understand!)
If you are interested in a Little Monkey Blanket Carrier visit the ORDERING page, then contact Misty from ABC about your custom fabric choices and additional arrangements at babyaddiction@gmail.com!  If you have twins, don’t worry – she is currently designing “multi-monkey” carriers for parents of multiples!  To browse the designs in stock or see more photos of past designs, visit her PRODUCT GALLERY.
Because our fans are SO WONDERFUL – Misty is offering a micro carrier for us to giveaway!  The micro carrier is the perfect size for toddlers to carry around everything they need (and a little blanket as well!)  For more information on The Addiction Baby Company, visit their website at www.addictionbabycompany.com
To enter the giveaway – simply tell us if you’ve used a sling that you loved or hated and what your reasons were!  We’re interested in your thoughts on babywearing!!  (Even if you haven’t used one – we’d STILL like to know what you think!!  And hey, it’s a chance to win a cute carrier for your little monkey!!)  Contest will come to a close Tuesday afternoon!
Our official LAUNCH PARTY is just getting started!!
Posted on April 29, 2010 by themomsquad2 Comments
If you’re thinking that it’s a better idea to skip sleep than to wake up early… think again!
Preparing for our first expo was an extremely fun (and EXTREMELY tiring) experience.  Thank goodness the three of us who went on this trip in particular can function seemingly well on little to no sleep!  Across the entire trip as a whole, we probably averaged somewhere around 3 hours of sleep per night (some nights we had no sleep, so I’ve taken that into account as well.)
But alas, the convention was a success – due in part to gallons of coffee and the ability to Hulu episodes of The Office when we had to stay awake just a few more hours in the hotel…
We officially launched our website on Saturday morning and introduced hundreds of parents in Cleveland to our amazing FREE service!!  If you haven’t done so already, go check out www.byebyewithbaby.com — to find what you need when you’re out, simply type in your zip code, choose a search radius (5, 10, 25, 50, or 100 miles), and filter your results by category from the drop-down menu.  Nursing/Breastfeeding rooms, Urgent Care Centers, Changing Tables, Family-Friendly Restaurants, Clean Gas Stations, Grocery/Drugstores, Maternity/Nursing/Baby Boutiques, AND specific family-related information in any U.S. Airport!
We wanted to share some photos of our launch party with you guys, so enjoy the following – then go browse our website!  Many listings will be upgrading in the coming weeks (this means coupons and deals for you!!) so stay tuned, follow us on Facebook & Twitter!!
Splish Splash – Baby Bathtime!
Posted on April 27, 2010 by themomsquad4 Comments
If you’re anything like me, you get completely soaked when you’re bathing the baby – either you lean over the side of the tub and get your shirt wet or you try to hoist the little guy out of the tub and get your pants soaked.  I quit the hold-the-towel-under-my-chin balancing act when it failed miserably time and again…
Enter the greatest product I’ve seen in a LONG time – a towel apron for bath time!  Livin Hoopla is a wholesale/retail designer of fashionable hair accessories for babies.  More than just bows, clips, and beanie hats – Livin Hoopla has created the most AMAZING thing I have ever laid eyes on – a towel apron!  Instead of pinning a towel between your chin and chest, debating how to wrap your dripping little one after bath time comes to an end, you wear the apron while you bathe the baby then wrap them up easily!
It’s so nice to not worry about getting drenched during bath time – functional and of course – totally cute!  Check out Livin Hoopla at http://www.livinhoopla.com/ – no matter how big your order is – it’s always $0.99 to ship!  Pictures of the towel aprons will be up soon on her website (but you could always let her know what colors you’d like to go with and see what she can customize for you!)
Towel Apron $20
Another super cute baby item that we just FELL IN LOVE with  – (and so great for baby shower favors) are these little rubber ducky soaps!  We met Joanna this weekend and HAD to buy a pair of these!  She is a fifteen year old entrepreneur who started her own soap company two years ago.
The soaps are unscented, dye-free, and handmade… and so lovable, don’t you think?
So – if you’re going to a baby shower or looking for a great gift, this Mom Squad lady suggests getting a towel-apron and some cutesy soap for a great baby bath kit a new Mom would love!  You can check out her website here and email her at jojosoapco@hotmail.com!
Rubber Ducky Soaps $3/each  (and the cutest goldfish soap too!! )
Crafty Newbies!
Posted on February 26, 2010 by themomsquadLeave a comment
The Mom Squad asked a few *new* Etsy store owners about their experiences and what finally convinced them to list their one-of-a-kind items for sale online (and they were more than happy to dish!)  Be sure to check them out and if you’re the crafty kind – it might convince you to set up your own store.
Etsy Store: plpinkinsa
Find it here: www.etsy.com/shop/plpinkinsa
What’s in store: If you are a fan of the adorable newborn baby pictures, you MUST check out these knitted goods!  My favorite is this teeny-tiny baby cocoon and matching hat – I’m wishing I had found her when my little guy was still small enough to be swaddled!  She also sells knit headbands (with the cute knitted flowers!), beanies, legwarmers, diaper covers, and pompon hats!
www.etsy.com/shop/plpinkinsa
www.etsy.com/shop/plpinkinsa
Her Craft: Knitting, sewing, crocheting
How’d she get started?: “I have been helping my aunt with photo shoots and we had a newborn shoot coming up – she emailed me links to hand-knit items on Etsy to show me things she’d like to use. I knew I could probably make them for her and after seeing the finished products, she and my friends suggested I open my own Etsy store.”
How was the process?: “It was pretty easy to set it up – all I did was add my items.  It’s easy to use and cheaper than eBay or Amazon, plus I love the fact that everything on Etsy is handmade!
 :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Etsy Store Name:  LBDesigns
Find it here: www.etsy.com/shop/lbdesignsshop
What’s in store: What’s better for a dripping wet toddler than a hooded towel!?  Whoever thought of a towel with a hood to keep a kid from dropping it to the floor instantly is a GENIUS!  What we love about these: the COLORS!  Bright towels and funky ribbon make these pairings unique so they’re easy to find when you’re prepping for bath time!  LB Designs  offers a high quality so they are super snuggly, 100% terry towels.  Fun fabrics for burp cloths make them a HUGE hit with posh moms as well.  (Nothing like cleaning up something yucky with something oh-so-cute!)
How long has she been doing this: “I learned the basics in high school then a few months ago started seriously sewing – I made a few things and had success selling them locally so I thought I’d try my hand at selling them on Etsy!”
What’s her favorite thing to make: I really like making custom items and my favorite item to give as a gift is a hooded towel!  I recently started working on appliqes for shirts (accepting custom requests for those!) they have been SO much fun!
***For a week only, LB Designs is having a Grand Opening Sale!  $5 off hooded towels and $2 off burp cloths!  Ends 3/5/2010 so go check it out!!***
If you’re thinking of opening an online shop to showcase your talent, here are some suggestions from an avid Etsy shopper:
1.  Feedback is VERY important!  Kick start your Etsy shop and earn some great feedback by offering an introductory price on your items!  BOGO sales and free shipping are great ways to have new customers want to pick YOUR item over others!
2.  Be mindful of how you present your items!  Make sure the location of your photos is clean, and presented in a neat and professional manner!
3.  Believe it or not, the way you package your item can get you noticed!  Take extra time and care in wrapping your handmade item in a nice tissue paper before putting it in the box or envelope to mail off!  This shows that you took that extra step to make your product neat and special for your buyers!
4.  Want to generate more business?  Be sure to include a couple of business cards in your packages!  I love sharing my great finds with others!  Business cards are a cheap and easy way for you to expand your business through word-of-mouth.
5.  Everyone loves a free gift!  You can increase your customer retention by sending a special little “extra” in your packages from time to time!  It makes your buyer feel important and makes them want to keep coming back for more!
6.  Promote yourself!  Offer to donate your goods or services as giveaways to companies or through online social networking sites.  This gives your Etsy shop TONS of exposure, and costs you very little to sponsor!
Bow, Oh Bow!
Posted on February 25, 2010 by themomsquad3 Comments
(Get it?  Like… “Boy, Oh boy!” Har, har!)
So today’s continuation of Tuesday’s blog is devoted to BOWS!  I’ll admit it…I’m a bow-aholic!  When I found out I was having a little girl, there was one thing I knew she would one day have…and that was a matching bow for every outfit!
Favorite seller:  www.etsy.com/shop/BlueMonsterBows06
Etsy feedback rating:  607, 100% positive
What she sells:  crochet headbands, elastic/knit headbands, woven headbands, crochet hats, baby snap clips, alligator clippies, hair bows/tuxedo hair bows, and felt flowers.
Custom requests:  YES
My search began on ebay, where I found a wonderful woman who makes perfect little bows for your perfect little girls!  Lucky for all of you, she has an Esty shop!  These tiny bows were just right for my tiny baby’s tiny head!   Her bows are VERY well made, and heat sealed.  I can’t tell you how many times I had to pull these from my child’s mouth!  They do NOT come apart!  (Don’t worry folks, they are not so tiny that she could fit them INSIDE her mouth, lol)  I came across some nice little nylon head bands and was able to mix and match them with the sweet little bows…it was (and still is) one thing my child never left home without. (And can you believe that people would STILL tell me what an adorable little BOY I had? LOL!)
Favorite seller:  www.etsy.com/shop/SweetnessBows
Etsy feedback rating:  55, 100% positive
What she sells:  Boutique-style bows, layered bows
Custom requests:  YES
I was having a sleepless night, so I decided to log onto Etsy.com to see what kind of trouble I could get into, lol.  I had been on the hunt for some layered bows, but couldn’t swallow the prices for some of them!  That’s when I came across one of the most adorable bows I had ever laid eyes on…AND…it was listed at a REALLY great price!  When I come across a new seller, the first thing I do is look at their feedback, (which of course, hers was great!) and read the seller’s profile.  Amanda, the owner of Sweetnessbows,  mentioned in her “about” info that she was looking for bow models.  Well…of course my love of bows (and of taking pictures) prompted me to send her an e-mail.  I found Amanda to be extremely sweet and approachable!  She has a vision for her Etsy store, and has worked hard to build a loyal clientele.  You can tell by reading her feedback comments how much her buyers love her work and creativity!  She sent me some bows and few days later and I have been hooked ever since!  These bows are some of the finest quality I have seen.  (And I have purchased A LOT of bows!)  Each layer of the bow is reinforced with thread, and then firmly secured to your choice of french or alligator style clip, and heat sealed.  Whether you are looking for a great-big beautiful bow, or a smaller pig tail set…she can make it all!
*****SALE ALERT!!****
I was just contacted by Amanda at SweetnessBows and she has offered our readers a 25% discount on their TOTAL order!  All you have to do is mention THIS BLOG  at CHECKOUT in the “message seller” section.
SweetnessBows is already having a BOGO 1/2 off sale…so stop by her online store and stock up on her new line of Spring bows!!
Happy shopping!
Starting today, we’ll be adding a new category to our blog titled “We ♥ Handmade” – everytime we blog mentioning something handmade (and where you can get it) it will be filed in that category so if you ever need to find something cute quick – you can surf through our blogs for great ideas!
Since it’s a new blog category, we’ll spend this week blogging about some of our current favorites – if you know of any (or even have one yourself!) let us know about it!  We’re all about supporting anyone (corporate, small business, or a mom who knits when her baby is sleeping…) — ANYONE who creates something great for us or our kids deserves our support! :)   I hope you guys fall in love just like we did!
